“At One Point In Your Life, You Either Have The Thing Or The Reasons Why You Don’t”
The simple words of Andy Roddick give a very simple but strong and relevant concept to think about. After completing a certain stage of your life, you knowingly or unknowingly think about the days passed by. If you haven’t done that till now, try it now. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Relax. Think about the past days – your school, college, or office. What did you get?
Weren’t their moments you wished you didn’t miss? Now take your present moment itself. Ask yourself what is the thing that you want most from this particular moment of your life. Have you done anything to get it? One thing I can surely say, none of us would ponder of just a single thing. Everyone has a big list. And this happens because we are in a race. We make long term wishes. A good thing to do, but too much future planning without dwelling in the present takes away our precious time. That is never ever going to come back.
We all are at home with these words,
“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery BUT today is a PRESENT, so utilize it wisely.”
We spoil our present by thinking about the future, which is obligatory but only in a limited fashion. The things to be done today has to be done by 11:59 pm of the same day.
“Lightning doesn’t strike the same place twice.”
-William Shakespeare
Opportunities once missed are lost forever as William Shakespeare said in his wonderful work of Julius Caesar,
“There is a tide in the affairs of men, which taken at the flood, leads on to fortune. Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries.”
We should make use of the present fully. There is no use in thinking of the lost time. Once gone, it’s gone forever. Most of our opportunities slip out of our hands due to the unwanted fear and constant thought, “What will people say, if I do that?”. Both of these factors act as a strong anchor and stall our life’s ship. They hardly allow us to take advantage of good winds. ‘Life is meant for those who sing by their tunes.’ Those who fail to experiment always lie in a state of jeopardy on how to attain self-contentment or happiness.
We should create a commitment and a strong belief in our dreams and work hard to reach our destination. Remember there are no shortcuts to life or dreams. We should gear ourselves for the tough situations ahead. ‘The stronger the faith, the harder the tests, the greater the rewards.‘ Yes, after toiling day and night, once you get what you desire, that is the most joyous moment. If the achievement is a positive one then the sweetness of success is doubled. Never be like those people who sit idle hoping that destiny will bring to them what is meant for them. Guys, destiny does play a part in our lives but working in your life is also important. The iron rod is meant for being a part of the construction process. Simply keeping it there will not be acceptable. It will just get rusted. You have to pick it up and give the proper place. it should be done at the right time too because rusted iron is of no use. So it is your dream.
Basically, it’s human nature to cast blame when they aren’t able to achieve something. It is just like the fox in the fables who states that the grapes are sour and not good to taste denying the fact that he couldn’t reach it. Most of us find salvation in doing this. It lays off the burden from your heart. You feel less hurt but that is short-lived. People, once they lose, find it easy to make up reasons for their failure. They tend to leave the matter there. They want success to be spoon-fed to them. Thus we have people who die unhappy because the true wishes of their hearts remain unconquered. Had they tried harder, they would have got it in their basket. Their life would have been like heaven on earth.
“The important thing in life is not the victory but the contest; the essential thing is not to have won but to have fought well”
– Baron Pierre de Coubertin
Life is transient, flowing continuously like a river. It is enjoyable only when you get in the waters and not when you stand on the banks. When you see your fish, dive in. Be courageous. Take a chance. What is at stake? Either you win or you make a memorable moment. Remember, whenever you take a new turn in your life, you take a lesson home. Utilize your time wisely, don’t let it slip from your hands.
Angelina Jolie says,
“If you ask people what they’ve always wanted to do, most people haven’t done it. That breaks my heart.” Don’t belong to that group. Take the slice of cake when life offers it so you won’t regret later!!!
